The Film and Publication Board (FPB) is deeply saddened by the news of the untimely passing on of the musician and actor Thobani Mseleni who played Babalo in the highly publicized film “Inxeba – The Wound”.
Mr. Mseleni was involved in a road carnage that robbed the South African Film and Arts industry four of its brilliant and talented young artists. “Mseleni’s sterling performance in the film cannot go unnoticed. The life of the dead is placed in the memory of the living, the contributions of Thobani Mseleni, former YoTv presenter Akhumzi Jezile and former Joyous Celebration singer Siyasanga Kobese to the entertainment industry will forever remain in our hearts. Therefore, the Department of Communications and the FPB are saddened to lose such young talent who had a bright future in the industry”, says Hon. Pinky Kekana, Deputy Minister of Communications.
The effect of such an untimely death is felt by both families and the country as a whole. “It is important to note that the Film and Television Industry has been identified by the National Development Plan (NDP) as a catalyst for poverty alleviation, job creation, nation building and social cohesion”, says Mr. Sandile Nene, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the FPB.
The FPB sends its heartfelt Condolences to the South African Film and Entertainment Industry, to the family and friend. May their soul rest in eternal peace.
